The expression "auto sharing" or "carsharing", its English version, is a term known in many cities of the world and that little by little is beginning to be more known in our country.
It's basically about being able to have a car whenever you need it and pay only for the time you use it, without having to be the owner.
At the end of 2018, Toyota pioneered this service in the country with its "Toyota Mobility Services", a virtual platform that allows you to rent any model of the Japanese range by the hour or day. Then two other companies joined in; first Awto (associated with General Motors, Nissan and Renault), and then Mykeego (in alliance with Ford).
Now, Volkswagen will also join the service of temporary use of vehicles through VW Move, an application that from the telephone will allow the rental of cars and vans of its fleet at any time, and only for the time needed.
The models linked to the service are the Volkswagen Polo and Virtus (compact 5 and 4 doors), the Golf (medium 5 doors), T-Cross and Tiguan (SUV) and Amarok (pickup). It still remains to be seen which versions will be available and their prices.
The methodology is the same as the other companies. First it will be necessary to download the VW Move application to the smartphone, which, after validating personal data and payment methods, will allow the pickup and delivery of the rented Volkswagen at the same point of origin.
"Our carsharing system was born with the aim of opening the doors to everyone who needs a Volkswagen. We are living the biggest cultural transformation process in the history of the company at a global level. And this is another step towards becoming a more agile, digital, efficient, humane and above all customer-focused company", explained Thomas Owsianski, CEO and President of Volkswagen Group Argentina.
Although the service has just been launched, in the first instance it will be available only to employees of its Industrial Center in Pacheco.
Meanwhile, during the first semester of 2021, it will be extended to employees of the Córdoba Industrial Center and to customers in the city of Córdoba, who will be able to find the units at the brand's official dealerships.
The final stage will contemplate the availability of a greater number of units, distributed in different parts of the country also through the network of official Volkswagen dealers.
RDA Mobility is the company associated to the German brand and will provide technological support.
About the service specifically, Martin Massimino, Commercial Director of Volkswagen Group Argentina explained: "VW Move will allow the user to access the whole range of models of the brand in a flexible way and according to their needs, through a 100% digital experience. Together with other initiatives of the brand, this new platform shows our commitment to achieve Volkswagen's transformation towards the new mobility trends".
