Volkswagen Taos will be the first SUV of the brand to be manufactured in Argentina. From 2021, it will be produced at the General Pacheco plant, Buenos Aires, the result of an investment of 650 million dollars. Size disbursed was used to modernize the equipment and infrastructure of the industrial center, and to install the new global MQB platform on which this model will be built.
With Taos, which will go on sale in Latin America during the second quarter of next year, Volkswagen confirms its offensive SUV. Today this segment represents 27 percent of sales and will grow 35 percent in the next five years in South America, according to projections released by the automaker.
The Taos engine will be the 250TSI. It is a 1.4-liter turbocharged gasoline with 150 horsepower, with a six-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission. For the brand, this mechanic "has already gained worldwide prestige for its technology and wide efficiency", as it "achieves better performance with lower fuel consumption".
The equipment will feature the latest generation of driving assistants to offer a high level of safety. One of them is the adaptive cruise control system with stop & go, which makes it possible to maintain the selected speed and autonomously maintain the distance with the vehicle in front. If it brakes and starts within three seconds, Taos will perform the same move.
Another key assistant is the autonomous emergency braking system with pedestrian detection. Based on an always active frontal radar, it identifies the risk by alerting the driver of the possibility of a collision or run over, and in case of not detecting any reaction, it brakes the vehicle autonomously, thus avoiding or reducing the effects of an accident.
Taos will also have a blind spot object detector called Blind Spot, which warns the driver when a vehicle is approaching from behind while maintaining safety when attempting to change lanes. It will also come with a rear traffic detector, a system that identifies vehicles approaching from behind, alerting the driver and automatically braking in case of not responding to the warning.
In turn, Volkswagen confirmed that the new SUV will equip the IQ Light lighting technology, which allows a longer and wider range of the headlights on the sides; with “Dynamic light assist”, which reduces the power and range of the headlights when another vehicle approaches; and with “dynamic cornering light”, which illuminates based on the steering angle.
The new VW-Play multimedia system will be present through a 10-inch central touch screen. From there you can download applications from the Volkswagen App Store, configure the profile, link our phone through Wireless App Connect and even schedule the vehicle maintenance service. This technology will be complemented by the Active Info Display, the digital dashboard that offers the possibility of personalizing the image of all the information according to the driver's taste. And it will include a wireless cell phone charger.
The interior will feature "soft touch" materials, leather inserts, programmable ambient lights in up to ten colors and the new Volkswagen image on the steering wheel.
