Subaru to focus on electric crossover production

Subaru electric crossovers

The Japanese brand already has a launch date for its next battery-powered models. Subaru is one of those Japanese brands that are highly respected in its native country, but in many other parts of the world it is practically revered. Although there are markets where it is present, its fame is still rooted in its sporting achievements in the WRC and in the creation of emblematic models that fascinated more than one generation. Considering the above, it is logical that the recent statements of Atsushi Osaki, head of Quality and future CEO of Subaru (since June), may not be the most pleasant for many people. We are referring to the fact that it is quite possible that the Japanese firm will engage in the production of electric crossovers, launching its first four models in 2028. Subaru's plan Specifically, Osaki said that production of the electric vehicles will begin at the plant Subaru owns in Yajima, near Tokyo, in 2026, while a year later the same will be done at the Oizumi factory. Both locations will be able to manufacture 200,000 electric vehicles per year, but also combustion units. Yes, if you are a Subaru fan and want nothing to do with electric mobility, don't worry. In the medium term, Subaru's idea is that by 2030 at least 40% of its offer will be electric. Today, the only green models the brand has are the Crosstrek Hybrid and the Solterra EV, so it needs more products in the hybrid and electric world. To do so, it will focus on the crossover segment, with four new models, in what will be a rather ambitious development bet. To face this great project, Subaru has an important economic support: when reporting its financial balance for 2022, the brand announced that its profits tripled compared to 2021, and that it expects them to continue to increase in 2023.
